Deserters: The first sentence in the story compares them to 'nam era draft-dodgers, I obviously don't have to point out the flaw in that comparison.
American Army soldiers are deserting and fleeing to Canada rather than fight in Iraq, rekindling memories of the thousands of draft-dodgers who flooded north to avoid service in Vietnam. It's a cook's prerogative
An estimated 5,500 men and women have deserted since the invasion of Iraq, reflecting Washington's growing problems with troop morale.
Hinzman said last week: "This is a criminal war and any act of violence in an unjustified conflict is an atrocity. I signed a contract for four years, and I was totally willing to fulfil it. Just not in combat arms jobs."
Hinzman, who served as a cook in Afghanistan, was due to join a fighting unit in Iraq after being refused status as a conscientious objector.
He realised that he had made the "wrong career choice" as he marched with his platoon of recruits all chanting, "Train to kill, kill we will".
He said: "At that point a light went off in my head. I was told in basic training that if I'm given an illegal or immoral order, it is my duty to disobey it. I feel that invading and occupying Iraq is an illegal and immoral thing to do.''

There is a certain amount deserting without a war, so what's important is the difference between the current number and that one.
I'm glad these people are deserting. I rather have them desert and become fugitives, than to serve like a bunch of retards and get the benefits they would upon discharge.
They didn't want to fight for their freedom, now they won't have it. They have to live in Canada now. SUCKERS!
I can't believe a cook is complaining. They have the best job. Our cooks barely did their jobs. They just gave us MRE's all the time cus they were too damn lazy to do anything. All he has too do is cook. He only carries around a rifle because it's regulation. He would have never needed to use it.
He's complaining about "Train to kill, kill we will"? Hahaha, he should hear my platoon marching to our cadence called "Napalm sticks to kids." That was one of the coolest songs ever. I'll post it on here in a bit.
Bottom line: this guy is a moron.
